This year, for the first time, ECCA 2017 will feature a separate tailor-made business and innovation programme, to be run in parallel with the first two days of the main conference. This reflects the increasing importance of the business sector in developing and delivering climate ready solutions, as well as the urgency of adapting businesses to be climate ready. It also reinforces the need for business, research, education and public bodies to learn and innovate together about what it takes to create scalable adaptation measures. The approach mirrors the successful Sustainable Innovation Forums 2015 and 2016, run in parallel with COP21 and COP22.

The ECCA business day on Tuesday 6 June will bring together businesses from a wide range of sectors to engage with each other, and with potential clients and investors. Interactive panel sessions will be facilitated to share perspectives on the business case for climate readiness and the risks, opportunities and solutions. The programme will include sessions on:

  • The Business Case for Climate Readiness
  • An outlook on business climate risks
  • Opportunities for climate readiness: market demand and finance
  • Business solutions for climate readiness: parallel sessions for key sectors including infrastructure & water, bio-economy, health, risk management, consulting & insurance

The conference will also offer space for exhibition tables and stands, as well as an evening networking event to be run in parallel with the poster drinks reception.

The ECCA innovation day on Wednesday 7th June will create opportunities for business, from micro- to multi-nationals to join with researchers, students and other groups in tackling the adaptation challenges of cities and local governments. Through an open innovation process, innovators will highlight how their cutting-edge solutions can tackle current and future adaptation needs – presenting their ideas on a Pitching Stage. Further details will be provided shortly!
